About Us
GAMH has been providing social care services to the citizens of Glasgow for more than twenty-five years. The organisation began life as a small unincorporated association providing support in local community settings. With the implementation of the Care in the Community legislation in 1990, and again with the advent of the psychiatric hospital closure programme, GAMH rapidly expanded the range and volume of services provided. The evolution of community care has presented opportunities for the organisation to respond to the needs of the people we work with by developing intensive support at home, services for people from minority ethnic communities, housing related services, specialist provision for homeless people with mental health problems, active (assertive) outreach, clubhouses, mental health advocacy support and services to carers including young carers. The organisation has a focus on working with people who experience mental health difficulties and their carers who live in the Greater Glasgow area. Our client group is people aged sixteen and above including some who are over the age of sixty-five.The exception is the Young Carers project, which works with young people aged twelve and over.
At any one time the organisation as a whole will be supporting approximately 2500 people.
