What does FWF mean for employees

Fair Work First is a policy introduced by the Scottish Government, aimed at promoting high-quality, fair employment practices. Organisations like GAMH are required to incorporate the key principles of Fair Work First (FWF) to access public sector grant funding.

The principles of FWF cover employment-related matters, including:

– Paying the real Living Wage
– Giving an effective voice to employees
– Investing in employee development
– Promoting inclusion and flexible working practices.

GAMH has fully adopted the FWF policy, and its principles are integrated into all aspects of our employment and business practices.

Fair Work First practices are incorporated into GAMH’s relationships with our workforce and any suppliers and agencies we contract. This is what it looks like in practice:

Accreditations and recognition: GAMH is proud to have achieved Investors in People Gold status [ext], demonstrating our commitment to an inclusive, supportive and engaged workplace. We’ve also been recognised with awards for our approach to employee Health and Wellbeing and as an exemplar Fair Work Employer by the Scottish Government.

Active employment outreach: GAMH proactively encourages job applications from individuals with disabilities. We also work to support volunteers to transition into employment with us and have helped multiple individuals make the move into paid roles.

Providing opportunities: Across the organisation, we have in place Workforce development pathways and champion internal promotions. GAMH is also an SQQ-accredited Learning Centre.

Respecting our workforce: GAMH applies Dignity-at-work and equality policies. Employees also have access to a confidential employee counselling service and occupational health support. We are also proud to have achieved Disability Confident status.

Giving employees an effective voice: To support two-way dialogue between our workforce and management, GAMH recognises UNISON within the workplace. We also have colleague participation policies in place and undertake regular workforce engagement forums.

Job security: As an employer, GAMH is committed to paying the real Living Wage and to no inappropriate use of zero-hours contracts. We also provide a comprehensive range of employment benefits – like paid parental leave and annual inflationary increases – which are covered in the Work with us section of the website.
